Making it to the top of a corporate ladder can inspire feelings of pride, accomplishment, and success. But what people don’t tell you about that spot at the top? The overwhelm. The burnout. The lack of a work-life balance. The quiet whisper of the question in the back of your head: “Is this all there is?”
That question plagued Shelley Paxton at the pinnacle of her corporate career: Chief Marketing Officer at Harley Davidson. And her journey for an answer took her out of the corporate world, down a path to nurture her own soul and creativity, and now back to the corporate world in a completely new way.
Shelley was our latest guest on the Soulcation Podcast. Now a best-selling author, international speaker, and what she calls a “liberator of souls,” Shelley has spent years on the soul care journey – to less burnout, less overwhelm, less hustle – and more self-love, authenticity, and a life she no longer needs a vacation from.
“I got to a point where I was like, ‘Do I want to turn 50 and still feel this way, or do I want to turn 50 and feel lit up from the inside out and knowing that I’m on MY path and not someone else’s?” Shelley said.
What followed was her quitting her high-powered job at Harley Davidson, and boldly setting off on her own path. From a terrifying nightmare that plagued her every night, to some of her darkest moments, Shelley lays bare her whole story on the Soulcation Podcast.
These days, Shelley has released “A Rebel Leader’s Manifesto,” and wants corporate leaders to lean into some of the same principles that she learned on her own journey.
“When we truly listen to what our soul is saying, yes, it might not feel easy at first, but there will be an ease in surrendering to that,” she said. “There will also be a hesitation, nervousness, a little bit of resistance because our soul is always challenging us to play bigger. Our truth is so much bigger than how we’re showing up today.”
“Every badass accomplishment is a series of tiny steps, so be brave and take the tiny steps.”
